WASHINGTON (NNS) — The Navy Sea Warrior Program Office (PEO EIS PMW 240) received the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (DoD CIO) Award Nov. 30, for its My Navy Portal program in a ceremony at the Pentagon.

The DOD CIO Annual Awards program recognizes the achievements of the DoD Information Technology (IT) community. The My Navy Portal (MNP) team won the award for successfully implementing the Department of Defense and the Department of the Navy’s first Information Level 4 system to be hosted by a commercial cloud provider.

“This award is a reflection of the hard work of the My Navy Portal team. The team’s effort to get the system into the commercial cloud is a major step forward for the Navy and the Department of Defense,” said Patrick Fitzgerald, PMW 240 program manager.

My Navy Portal’s implementation into the commercial cloud has significant benefits to the DoD. It modernizes and consolidates the Navy’s IT infrastructure, improves application integration, eases access to authoritative data, improves cyber security and begins the migrations of multiple manpower, personnel, training and education capabilities into the cloud.

“This effort is a key milestone in the Navy’s Cloud-First Strategy,” Fitzgerald said. “By being the first organization to successfully achieve implementation in the commercial cloud, the Navy is leading innovation.”

Launched earlier this year, MNP is a Web portal designed to combine several personnel, training and education websites for Sailors into one location. My Navy Portal will provide Sailors a single portal to manage their careers from the day they join to the day they separate. MNP will consolidate access to personnel databases, training and education systems, and supporting websites into one easy-to-use system. Additional capabilities and functions will be added in phases before becoming fully operational.
